At Sunset

Why do I love you more
at sunset
when the glory of the day
is fading away
into the unknown?

In solemn celebration
dazzling,
a color-filled display
of shared experiences
dances in our eyes.

The impermanence,
each successive beauty
shifting hue and nuance
of each other
drawing closer.

Aware
that this moment
will never again
be shared nor captured
empties our pride.

The sunset,
richly clothed
reminds of the
living elegance covered
by rough work.

At sunset
we find in our hearts
the gratitude for a day
almost passed
with blessings unnoticed.

We try to hold
the magic of a moment
we know
will slowly slip
into dim uncertainty.

The coming loss
puts all senses
firmly in the present
freezing time
in sudden immortality.

At this moment
facing the fading
of a beauty,
summarizing all that has been
and all that is
I love you more.
