If you knew
a look
could change your life,
would you let your eyes meet mine?
If you knew
a smile
could lift the lonely veil of isolation,
would you see the smile on my lips?
If you knew
that recognizing another's existence
could lighten yours,
would you smile back?
If you knew
that seeing the humanity in another
could give you hope,
would you slow your pace?
If you knew
that looking for beauty in strangers
could erase your fear,
would you walk open and confident?
If you knew
that you
could be a source of upliftment for others,
would you walk through life with greater purpose?
