Miles
(a tribute to Miles Davis)
The space
between
each
note
you play
is a doorway,
a timeless place,
to rest the mind
and let imagination
stray into far-off worlds,
where colors dance,
and emotions rule.
As you inhale,
your life
transforms
each
breath -
simple strokes -
chromatic colors on silver gray,
spare patches of dialog -
piano, bass,
saxophone,
and heart.
Images
break apart,
melodies
pixilate,
until our vantage point
zooms out to space,
then gathers into the mosaic
that you create,
an offering,
a bouquet,
love uttered
note by note -
soft kiss of breath,
life and song
shouting praise,
pain overcome -
ecstatic freedom,
rhythmic conversation,
your trumpet
punctuating drum,
a pulsing phrase -
tubes of bright-hued neon
through a smoky haze.
