Child's
Life
Adults
are talking
don't understand a thing
sitting by the coffee table
I grab a magazine.
It's the
1950's
and the magazine is "Life"
suddenly I enter a world
of images and strife.
I am a child
age of five
can not read a word
but the imagination travels
mind and spirit stirred.
Suddenly
connected
with people near and far
with politics and tempests
with poverty and war.
Discovering
the world
beyond the family home
impresses my young life
urging me to roam.
Psyche like
a sponge
absorbing the human race
conditioning my outlook
beyond my time and place.
Contemplating
photos
each one a touching story
delving into others' lives
sharing their pain and glory.
I am the
child transformed
heart filled with compassion
the lens of the photojournalist
has focused my life-long mission.
